نامگذاری
نام فارسی این زیرگونه بر اساس موقعیت کلی پراکنش این زیرگونه نسبت به دو زیرگونه غربی (columbinus) و شرقی (leschenaultii) برگزیده شد.
ویژگیها

پراکنش جهانی
منطقه جوجه آوری از منطقه قفقاز و شرق دریای خزر تا جنوب قزاقستان و تا پاکستان؛
منطقه زمستانگذرانی در دریای سرخ، خلیج عدن و خلیج فارس است.
وضعیت و جمعیت در ایران
این معمولترین فرمی است که در زمان مهاجرت در جنوب خزر و زمستانها در خلیج فارس حضور مییابد. جمعیت کوچک جوجهآور در شمال غرب و شمال شرق ایران از این گونه احتمالا به این فرم تعلق دارند. دو نمونه Aegialites geoffroyi از کاریز و جلگه طبس (Zarudny 1903) و یک نمونه از چابهار موجود است (Zarudny 1916).

Breeding [from Transcaucasia and Transcaspia east to southeastern Kazakhstan and Pakistan];
Non-breeding [in the Red Sea, Gulf of Aden and Persian Gulf]
Status in Iran
This is the commonest form occurring on passage in the south Caspian region and in winter in the Persian Gulf. The small numbers of birds breeding in northwestern and northeastern Iran probably belong to this form. There are two specimens of Aegialites geoffroyi were from Kariz and Tabas plain (Zarudny 1903), and another from Chabahar (Zarudny 1916).
Museum specimens
There are a few birds from Gilan, Zanjan, Lorestan and Markazi in BMNH, NHMTashkent, SMNS and ZISP. Birds unidentified to subspecies from Golestan, Khorasan, Hormozgan, Bushehr and Baluchestan are in BNHS, MNHN, NHMTashkent, and ZISP.
