زیرگونه columbinus کوچکترین زیرگونه از این گونه است، که به آسانی و اغلب توسط مشاهدهکنندگان با گروه atrifrons از سلیم شنی کوچک اشتباه میشود. نمونههای موزهای این پرندگان نیازمند بررسی مجدد هستند.
نامگذاری
نام فارسی این زیرگونه بر اساس موقعیت کلی پراکنش این زیرگونه نسبت به دو زیرگونه مرکزی (scythicus) و شرقی (leschenaultii) برگزیده شد.
ویژگیها
زیرگونه columbinus کوچکترین زیرگونه از این گونه است، که به آسانی و اغلب توسط مشاهدهکنندگان با گروه atrifrons از سلیم شنی کوچک اشتباه میشود. نمونههای موزهای این پرندگان نیازمند بررسی مجدد هستند.
پراکنش جهانی
منطقه جوجه آوری از ترکیه و سوریه از طریق شمال عراق و احتمالا جنوب ایران تا جنوب افغانستان؛
منطقه غیر جوجه آوری در جنوب شرق مدیترانه، دریای سرخ، خلیج عدن و شمال خلیج فارس است.
وضعیت و جمعیت در ایران
این تاکسون ممکن است جوجهآور کمیاب در جنوب غرب ایران باشد. اعتقاد بر این است که این زیرگونه زمستانها در جنوب غرب ایران و خلیج فارس حضور مییابد (Message & Taylor 2005).

columbinus is the smallest subspecies of this species, easily and often confused by observers with atrifrons group of the Lesser Sandplover. The museum specimens of these taxa would therefore merit re-examination.
Global range
Breeding from Turkey [and Syria east through northern Iraq possibly as far as southwestern Iran] to southern Afghanistan;
Non-breeding in southeastern Mediterranean, Red Sea, [Gulf of Aden and northern] Persian Gulf
Status in Iran
This taxon may be an irregular breeding bird in southwestern Iran. It is believed to occur in winter in southwestern Iran and the Persian Gulf (Message & Taylor 2005).
Museum specimens
columbinus is the smallest subspecies of this species, easily and often confused by observers with atrifrons group of the Lesser Sandplover. The museum specimens of these taxa would therefore merit re-examination. There are a few birds from Gilan, Zanjan, Lorestan and Markazi in BMNH, NHMTashkent, SMNS and ZISP. Birds unidentified to subspecies from Golestan, Khorasan, Hormozgan, Bushehr and Baluchestan are in BNHS, MNHN, NHMTashkent, and ZISP.
